Welcome!

Beginners and new students are always welcome. Wear loose comfortable clothing, preferably with long pants. You may attend an introductory class any time with no obligation or cost.

Classes are held Monday-Thursday and Saturday.

The Moo Duk Martial Arts Institute offers classes in the traditional martial arts of Tang Soo Do and Hap Ki Do.

Tang Soo Do draws on the centuries-old Korean kicks of Tae Kyun, the soft flowing movements of northern and southern Chinese martial arts, and the hard linear punches, blocks, and open handed techniques of Okinawan arts.

Hap Ki Do, the way of coordinated power, employs self-defense techniques, including joint locks and take-downs. Body movement is often circular, first deflecting or redirecting an opponent's force, then using precise technique to gain control or disable the opponent.

Congratulations to David L. who brought home a second-place award for forms in the 2010 Jimi Moenaert Memorial Championship, a part of the Great Lakes Karate Circuit.  Great job!

Winners @ Spirit of Detroit Tournament

Our students turned in excellent performances at the 2010 Spirit of Detroit Martial Arts Tournament:

  • Michael G  — First Place in Forms
  • Andrew H — Third Place in Forms
  • D'Angelo J — Fourth Place in Sparring

Congratulations also to Toussaint F. His performance of Pal Che Dae did not lead to a tournament medal but Master Fancher described it as "the best performance of Pal Che Dae that I have ever seen him do". Way to go Toussaint!

And a special thank you to the families of the competitors who I may not have seen who came out to cheer on our students. A hearty congratulations to our champions!
